Affiliate Fraud

Category: PPC

Recently there have been two stories of Affiliate Commission fraud that I’ve come across. The first story that broke was from Jonathan Volk and one of his friends. Basically some one hacked into their affiliate sites and changed their links to the hackers own Market Leverage links. Depending on the campaign and time length this could have costed them $100′s if not thousands of dollars.

The second story that I stumbled upon was about Commission Junction. Basically, A class action suit has been brought against affiliate marketing giant ValueClick, Inc., and its wholly-owned subsidiaries Commission Junction, Inc. Hijackers were able to successfully steal commissions from legitimate affiliates by using software such as adware.

So, for all of you affiliate marketers out there, be careful and keep checking your links to make sure you don’t get scammed.

Wow…kinda makes you wonder if your information is safe! You would think that such large affiliate network would have some way of preventing this type of fraud from happening. I guess the best course of action would be to continually check your own affiliate link; however, that does seem quite time consuming doesnt it? Someone should come up with a script or something that does this automatically…
