What a month August of 2009 was for me and my internet marketing hobby. I had been in a big funk lately with not getting campaigns going and not finding anything that could last more than a few days. I have my buddy Brandon to thank for my small profit (good enough for me) for this month and another person that gave out a free “semi-naughty” trick for direct linking campaigns.

So basically I had 2 campaigns that generated all of my profit for this month which is fine. One of them is dead as I had to ship away that domain to the company that said it was their trademark. No problem. My other campaign is still going after weeks of being profitable. I’ve gone through 3 networks as my initial network started to scrub me. Let’s talk about that a little more.

I was hitting some nice numbers with them at 20% conversion rate and they gave me a generous 5% increase in payout. After a week my conversions dropped to 10% and was making minimal profit. I switched over to a network that was paying 6% less on the original payout and got my conversions back up to where I was profiting but the bump in payout was nice. That got hit and so I switched to a 3rd network that was paying 30% less than the original payout and I was barely making a dime. All in all it was a fun learning experience to see how the different payouts generated similar conversions until I started to get scrubbed.

GUESS WHAT – I learned that if I wait a while (a week or so) that my initial network link went back to 20% conversion rate. Huh! It’s almost like the advertiser decided to scrub a bit and then as I quit sending traffic they turn off their magical machine and now I can hit them for a few more days and then break. FUNNY STUFF

I also found out with this particular campaign that I could use a different offer in the same niche and the LP and offer page NOT MATCH AT ALL and still convert. My ROI was horrid but it was an interesting test. I am planning on making a LP that will match this other offer so i can be profitable instead of treading water.

With this new offer finding I was able to quickly win the 2nd place Newbie prize over at PublisherChallenge.com. It is a funny story. I noticed the Newbie prize of 2nd place was VERY low and so I signed up last Sunday and was able to start generating revenue on Tuesday. I quickly jumped the person in 2nd place and (hopefully I’m not writing this too early) will get $100 to my paypal account. Yeah! for me.

The next contest is Peerfly only for a 2 month long contest. I’d like to get the $5,000 prize of a Flip Mino HD or the $10,000 prize of the digital camera. We already have a real nice camera but it’s always nice to win a nicer one. If I can’t get anything to work with Peerfly the next week or two I’ll just have to scrap it and work with what I know works. <— what?
