Seriously, I have become a free advertising genius in the past month. Let’s retrace my steps a bit and see why thinking ahead and quick actions can have you hit it big.

My first smart move was getting on to JohnCow.com as soon as it went live. There was some luck involved in stumbling upon it a few months ago but I figured he’d do well. I was correct and have become a loyal reader and comment often. Mr. Cow gives away a prize to one of his top commentators during the month. I knew it was only a matter of time for me to win this prize as I felt a “regular” should eventually win.

I won a great prize in September, a free Blog Review. That’s a $200 review for free. So, my thinking into the future was “I need to have something ready for when that review hits so the traffic coming from a big blog like Cow’s has something good to read”. Where do you think the ipod nano came from? Ding ding ding, that was a planned contest that I waited for the right moment. After adding up the entries today I’m up to about 180 entries.

My second duh moment was back in July actually. Mr. Shoemoney does “Free T-Shirt Friday”. You send him a shirt and he takes a picture of himself in it and writes a sentence or two. Well I didn’t do anything evil or extra for when my shirt hit it 3 days ago but as you can see from the previous post I got lots of traffic. I did gain a few users on my forum from that T-Shirt.
