Madden 08

I, like many of gamers, purchased Madden 08 today on the release date. I’ve got good and bad things to share about the PS3 version. Before I get flamed for any bad things, I should note that I’ve only gotten 3 hrs. of game time so far. I have had to work all day at both of my jobs today. This is a first impression rather than a full review. Maybe after 2 weeks or more I’ll give a full review.

Positives: I just got my PS3 the day before Madden came out. This is the first game, besides store time, that I have sat down with the PS3 and really gone through it. The picture is amazing on my 27″ Samsung HD. I broke one long run on a sweep where the Defense didn’t have any Safety help. (seems reasonable) I also broke out for a 102 yrd. INT return for a TD. Again, this seemed fair because it’s goaline coverage and it was on a quick hitting route from the 5 yrd line. The new options with franchise and being your own player look real exciting I can’t wait to dig into those.

Negatives: The rendered video after a play is fuzzy. I have a feeling that was by design but I’m not sure why. The play is crystal clear and then there is this haze look when a player is talking shit after a play. The playbook, as in picking your play, is a little weak. You get a box of 4 plays and then have to move left or right to find more plays. I liked the older versions where it was 3 across and you could see the other 3 plays above that and 3 plays below that. Don’t flame if this was in last years Madden because I didn’t have it.

All in all the game so far was fun and I can see myself digging deeper into it. I can’t wait to pick any team I want and play my friend in Denver and kick his ass when he plays as the Broncos. The second he picks a different team, I’m going to give him so much crap.
