In 2011 my wife and I have decided that we need to get an seo process going so that in 18 months we will have some great passive income coming in. We don’t want to start from scratch after she stops her daycare and now is the time to get going and building our network of websites. In 2010 we purchased a few domains that looked promising and figured we would do minimal work to get them ranking. We were wrong! We did not have an seo process when building those websites.

There are tools and blogs and forums and ebooks on how to plan your own seo process and I was a little overwhelmed to say the least. Affiliate marketing with paid traffic now seems simple but I’m sure going after free traffic is going to seem simple in about 18 months. So, we sat down and literally scribbled out a plan of attack.

Our SEO Process

The first thing we did was take the niche research equation out of the plan. I paid a guy to give me random keywords that were “easy” to rank in google according to the many tools that are out there. I’ve done plenty of keyword research before and used many tools but this time after paying for a few leads I feel like we really have to focus because we’ve invested a few dollars already.

Next in our seo process was to create the websites. Since I’ve used wordpress in nearly every domain that I have that was an obvious choice. To make things even easier I went ahead and used the azon theme from Chris Guthrie’s course “Niche Profit Course“. The theme is very clean and has some very simple features with ad placement and featured articles. A plugin that we’re using on all of our blogs is SEOPressor. I don’t want to fill this post up with how it works, you can check it out. But it’s awesome (maybe another post later).

During these 2 phases my wife was hard at work writing articles for the websites. She went ahead and made 5 for each and a few extra for some of the keywords that she could continue to write about. Her first real input in our seo process is next time we’ll choose topics that she won’t mind writing about. There was one in particular that’s just tough to write for. At this time we do not want to shell out more money for articles.

We have now come to the point of our seo process in which we are at currently. Link Building! This is painstaking work especially if you’re doing the work yourself. I won’t go through all of the details but there is one part that is pretty important, random links. To get random one-way links we go to article directories and post some articles. One of the best places is to use The Keyword Academy own network called PostRunner. This is not one of those automated link builders. These are blogs that real people own and real people approve or disapprove the articles. You will be banned from using this service if you are caught using spun content.

I went to FreeSEOReport.com and filled in one of my small niche sites url along with the main keyword that I am trying to rank for. There is no reason to check browie.com to see if it ranks for browie. (What’s a browie anyway right?) So I followed the three easy steps of Keyword, URL, Email (oh, there it is, he got my email).

The report only took a few minutes until an auto-email was sent to me with my link. Inside I found so much information I didn’t know what to do with myself. I’m interested in SEO but I’m not this interested. I just want to get XXX backlinks to my sites so I can rank higher for my amazon sites. Here is the list of what the report included.

• Avoid too high keyword density (>10%) as it may lead to penalty (use synonyms, related words)
• Put your keyword closer to the start of the meta description

In summary I would love for some one to find me a more in depth FREE SEO report out there, because I bet you can’t. I joke in this post about the free credit report model but in all seriousness why wouldn’t some one charge for this service. I would say you’re lucky enough to get 1 full blown report about a site. If you’re an individual that wants to get into SEO consulting in your local area this would be a great website to use. Affiliate Marketing with PPC was put on hold. We all know that can be stressful in itself with worrying about spending money and making profits. I have decided to help some one out with their online ventures and kind of take an easy way out for now. I am going to be back at affiliate marketing there is no doubt about that. I have had success with it and know the huge gains that can be made.

SEO / Article Marketing
So, what I’ve been doing lately has been working on SEO profits with adsense for now. Granted that is weak money in the beginning. If we can create multiple sites that can do well with organic traffic it will be a nice sum of cash each month. Plus with the learning involved we can turn that into more sites over the next year and just multiply those earnings. I already have plans to place CPA offers on the high traffic sites that come out of this. It has gone slow but well. We have 8 domains that have 2 month age on them. One of the domains has already made its cost back with ZERO promotion / link building. That has to be considered a success. With a nice 6% CTR we can easily make that a cash calf (ha!) with more traffic. There was a small window where MSN was ranking this particular site in the top 3 for it’s main keyword and whoa that was great. Now the goal is to get that into the top 3 of all three search engines.

With summer here and more time on my hands I should be able to keep updates better. Have a good summer everyone.

If you are visiting the site you can see that I have put a blog on this. The blog is for the obvious SEO reasons. I have made the switch and decided if you’re going to market anything you should always start it with SEO first. This way if you go the PPC route you’ve got a great content site available to add landing pages onto for that niche. I know 1/2 of you hate google and their adwords system. Just imagine if you took time to get your page indexed and ranked in google and then go for Quality Score. I know for a fact it would be slapped less. If your PPC campaigns do not work then you can count on the minimal traffic you could get from search engines.

Many of you won’t remember this post a few months from now but if you’re still a reader of my blog I will give you and update on how it’s going.
