Tiger Woods has won his 13th Major title and his 59th PGA tournament. In the heat of the championship, literally 100+ degrees, Tiger has moved one step closer to Jack Nicklaus’ record of 18 majors.
Day 1: Tiger started on the back nine in the morning. The back nine proved to be a good starting spot for players. Tiger birdied the first hole of the championship and kept the ball rolling from there. Tiger did give one back on hole 18 but scrambled for par on holes 16, 17, and 3.
Day 2: Usually Saturday is for “moving day” but Tiger made the second round his own moving day. Just missing a putt on the last hole for the first ever 62 in a major championship, Tiger moved to the top of the board with a 7 under 63 on Friday. It was magnificent. It felt like he was on his way to run away with the title.
Day 3: On a ho-hum day at the PGA Tiger actually increased his lead by 1 stroke by shooting a 1 under 69. Two birdies and a bogey was the only excitement for Tiger on this day. Some moved up and some moved down but at the end of the day second place was still at 4 under and Tiger moved from 6 to 7 under par for the championship. Let’s see what happens on the final day.
Day 4: Tiger start off with a slow start making a bogey on the 2nd. The next 6 holes he played in 3 under par then dropped a shot on the 9th. While Tiger started the back nine with 4 pars his competitors, Ernie Els and Woody Austin creaped to within 2 shots. The par 3 fourteenth didn’t help after he 3 putted for a bogey and now was only 1 stroke ahead. Being Tiger Woods, he proceeds to birdie the next hole to get that stoke back and have a 2 shot lead. The rest of the round was nothing exciting, Tiger kept his 2 stoke lead against Woody Austin and grabbed his 13th Major of his career.
