Did anyone else see this story? It’s very interesting that an emoticon has a birthday, but it apparently does. See, 25 years ago a Carnegie Mellon University professor Scott E. Fahlman says, he was the first to use three keystrokes. Here is a quote from cnn.com
“Fahlman posted the emoticon in a message to an online electronic bulletin board at 11:44 a.m. on September 19, 1982, during a discussion about the limits of online humor and how to denote comments meant to be taken lightly.”
Now, isn’t that interesting. Who would have thought people, mostly this Fahlman guy, would remember they were the first ever to use this. I suppose because in 1982 there were about 20 people online. (LoL) <-- funny
So, what do we owe this Dr. Fahlman? Maybe instead of emoticons we should call them the EmotiFahlmans. Nah that doesn't quite sound as good as emoticons. (:D) <-- funny I guess we do owe this man something, he did start a new trend in computer communication. It is much easier and faster to use an emoticon instead of trying to explain to your friend on IM that you are actually ROFL (rolling on the floor laughing).
