I have become an avid blog reader as of late. My iGoogle page has over 10 feeds on it right now. I am really enjoying my new hobby. This theme is something I picked because it had Manny Ramirez from the Red Sox on the header. What I didn’t realize is it has some flaws.
Flaw #1: I have gotten the comment that it loads a little slow. Since I’ve gotten that input I watch the load time, and I think it is slightly slower than some other blogs.
Flaw #2: The right side widgets are really close together and cluttered. The titles are right next to the widget above it. It’s too messy over there.
Flaw #3: This flaw isn’t a huge issue but it’s kind of an issue. My pages like “About” and “Isabelle” they are slightly hidden. Some one mentioned this and I can see his point a little.
So, what I need from anyone that reads this (cricket, cricket) is some ideas on a theme. I’m starting my search over at WordPress Themes and bookmarking some nice clean themes. Here are some ideas that I think I want.
- 3 columns instead of this 2 column
- 100% width instead of the squeeze together
- Simple header with easy to see pages
- I don’t want it too plain, if there is a cool feature I’ll take it
I believe that’s about it. So if you find a simple theme I can probably change the header image no problem. Post a link in the comments here or go to my contact page and send a message.

Brian, on your post your link to wordpress themes is missing the “r” in “wordpress”, so the link is sending everyone one to some ad site. Just FYI, I will keep my eye out for cool themes.

Look for “fluid” themes instead of “fixed”. They’ll spread out to fill the extra space. They’re a bit harder to code though, so finding one you like might be tough.

Check out the first green one that page. I thought it kind of had you same look and feel but a little better layout and better color schemes in the header. Also, you probably can customize that header to whatever you want.

Try to keep in mind the people who use lower resolutions. If you use a theme designed for 1024×768 then people still using 800×600 will have to scroll horizontally. Or they’ll just ignore your sidebars. The problem only gets worse the higher the resolution you use for the design. That’s why a lot of the themes look squeezed together.
Just turn down your resolution and check out some of the blogs that you think look fine now. Some of them will look awful.
